Duality theory is a very old subject of investigation in the field of optimization. It is best known in the context of linear programming, where a “dual problem” can be associated with each given problem which is then called “primal problem”. The dual linear problem is closely related to the primal one, the optimal values (if the exist) are equal, and the dual optimal solution allows for nice interpretations. This duality concept is the classical one named after language.
